If Walls Could Talk - A Civil War Home - 1037 Black Horse - Gettysburg

If walls could talk - A Civil War home for sale. The Civil War is a point in American history like no other. This five bedroom home in Gettysburg can be your base of operations and your own piece of the history of the United States.

Gettysburg real estate 1037 Black Horse Tavern Rd, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 17325

Entering the 2700 square feet of living space from the grand porch, the main foyer opens to a parlor, dining room, and central staircase. The parlor fireplace is surrounded by an antique mantle and the room has beautiful hardwood floors and tall windows. Currently decorated with Civil War artifacts and memorabilia, this is the gathering space for reading, reflecting and reveling in the history that is Gettysburg.

The kitchen has been modernized with all the comforts of home. A family sized eating area allows for end of the day gatherings or morning coffee. High ceilings and ample cabinets make cooking, eating and talking a pleasure in here.

The dining room is steps from the kitchen and can seat a platoon. Wood floors, high ceilings, and tall windows provide space to sit and to serve. If these walls could talk, they'd have dinner conversations to recall from the 1830s.

Five Large bedrooms, wood floors, modern plumbing, and spacious closets provide comfort in the upstairs living areas. High ceilings, a finished third floor, and views over cornfields, take you back to a simpler time when things had gotten complicated. There is even a two car garage that can protect your wagon from the elements.

The tire swing in one of the ancient trees provides smiles and giggles for young and old. The yard is large enough to play a good wiffleball game in. And there is a stream across the street.

This property was known at the time of the Battle of Gettysburg as the Marks Forney Farm. The current owners hired a researcher who found documents relative to the ownership of the house and farm that go back near two hundred years. Being in Gettysburg and standing on the battlefields and understanding the people, the weapons, and the factors that affected the outcome, is whelming.

This property is a peaceful place to regroup and rally from. It is close enough to have heard the cannons and seen the troops, and yet far enough to have been spared. If you are a Civil War History lover, this is a place in history.

My son and I took a road trip to Gettysburg. We are both history buffs so it was really awe inspiring to visit the town and battlefield.

Thanks for commenting, David.  The family we were visting gave us the whirlwind tour and commentary. It was an historic time with no gps, no texting, no dr ones, no air cover, etc.  Their dedication to their cause drove them to both victory and defeat.
