Harwich, Massachusetts is one of the older Cape Cod towns. There are homes with lead paint and victorian looking exteriors. Harwich looks like other old New England towns, but on Cape Cod. Harwich has a lot of "old" money and old famlies. There are almost as many who summer here as live year round. Harwich likes to say it is midway between Woods Hole (Falmouth) and P-Town. It claims to be the place that the cranberry growing business started in the US.
Of the just over 1900 properties in the pre-foreclosure stages on Cape Cod on May 6, 2008, Harwich only had 77. With some 140,000 homes on the Cape, this is only a small fraction of the real estate on Cape Cod. Less than half of those homes are second homes, and this does not account for commercial properties. Slightly less than half the homes in Harwich are second homes (41%+-).
Harwich is between Dennis on the west side, Brewster on the north, and Chatham on the east. There are some good harbors in Harwich which means boaters like it. Of the roughly 8,500 residences in Harwich, the 77 pre-foreclosures I found are small percentage of its housing inventory.
Here are the breakdowns for Harwich that I have found. Keep in mind these are PRE-foreclosures (as of 5/6/08) and some will not go to complete foreclosure.
